Silvia Perotto

Silvia Perotto is currently Professor of Plant Biology at the Department of Life Sciences and Systems Biology at the University of Turin (Italy). Her scientific interest has always been focused on root symbioses and after completing her PhD at the John Innes Centre in Norwich (UK), working on the legume nodule symbiosis, she moved to the University of Turin and to her main research interest: the biology of mycorrhiza. For many years she focused, with her team, on ericoid mycorrhiza, and developed novel genetic tools to investigate the molecular mechanisms of metal tolerance. In the last 20 years, she has expanded her research to include orchid mycorrhiza and coordinated collaborative projects to investigate diversity and functioning in this fascinating mycorrhizal type.
